I wasn’t really sure what to think about this film when I first heard about it, first off it’s directed by Bryan Singer, which I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive for Superman Returns, but forget all the accusations at the moment. I never like to attach a grouping of creative minds and talent to one name, but that is the way the social group thinks now of days. With all that said and just an overview of the movie and talent associated, I’ll have to say I greatly enjoyed the movie. The die hard fans will have issues, as we always do, but now knowing what to expect and not expect from a comic movie adaptation after the last decade of trial and error, I personally can sit back and look at the story as a stand alone and give an opinion on acting and how the actual movie progresses. Hugh Jackman pulls off the role of Logan/Wolverine with grace at this point, with Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy both reprising the roles of Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X). Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender reprise the role of Eric Lehnsherr/Magneto and a huge supporting cast including, Halle Berry (Storm), Peter Dinklage (Dr. Trask), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique/Raven), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), Omar Sy (Bishop), Evan Peters (QuickSilver), Josh Helman (Maj. Stryker), Lucas Till (Havok), Booboo Stewart (Warpath), Adan Canto (Sunspot), Bingbing Fan (Blink), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), and many many more.
It was very hard to turn away from the screen, even the slower parts were filled with slick dialog and great acting. The action scenes were everything and more than we’ve come to expect with a slight more realism than past comic movies, including Singers previous releases. The Movie starts right in the action and brings you to a quick spot of understanding and does it without having to have an hour of dialog and backstory, then almost restarts again on another tempo and builds upon that through out the entire movie with a great climatic scene of events in the end. I can say after seeing it, that no role was wasted, everyone seemed to feel like they belonged and that they were really a part of the whole story…. a great way of showing the impact on lives the events of the story detail.
Now as far as family orientated, I’d say this was the least kid friendly X-Men movie. There are a few really graphic scenes, or maybe that was the way the characters made me react, I’ll have to say there are about four scenes that just made me choke up. But overall it felt a little more adult orientated with little to no showing of students or children. I felt comfortable taking my 7 and 5 year old, but there were a few scenes where I distracted them from the screen for a moment. There was a little foul language but other than that, I felt comfortable watching the movie with them.
Will Bryan Singers accusations against him affect the film? I hope not, more so that I hope he didn’t do it, but if he did, I hope people can judge a movie based on the entire cast and process and not just the actions of one man.
Well, that’s it for me for now, I’ll post some more in depth reviews later, Have a great night!
